What is my leadership experience?
My leadership experience comes from both healthcare and service. I currently work as an Emergency Department nurse, where I lead in high-pressure situations by advocating for patients, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and making critical decisions quickly and compassionately. Prior to becoming a nurse, I worked in EMS, which strengthened my confidence, adaptability, and ability to stay calm under stress.
Beyond clinical leadership, I serve as a Board Member of the Boise State University Student Philanthropy Board, where I helped guide funding decisions and supported initiatives that created meaningful impact in our community. Growing up with limited resources also shaped my leadership style — I lead with empathy, resilience, and a strong desire to lift others up.
What is the “why” behind my involvement in this project?
My “why” is deeply personal. I grew up poor, watching my parents work constantly just to meet basic needs. Because of that, I understand how powerful encouragement, mentorship, and opportunity can be for young people.
I’m involved with the Foundation for Leadership in Youth because I believe every kid deserves someone who sees their potential — especially when their circumstances don’t reflect it yet. I’m passionate about helping youth build confidence, develop life skills, and realize they’re capable of more than they may believe. Being part of something that invests in future leaders feels like a full-circle moment for me.
Fun fact about me/a hobby I enjoy
I’m passionate about strength training and fitness. Going to the gym has become both a physical and mental outlet for me — especially while working night shifts in the Emergency Department. It helps me stay disciplined, manage stress, and show up as the best version of myself for my patients and the people around me.
